Upcoming Events

Dear Parents/Carers,

A huge welcome to our new children in Reception and welcome back to all our existing pupils.  We were blessed with amazing weather throughout the holidays, which I’m sure has helped energise the children so that they are ready for another exciting year at St Michael’s.

Our new Reception children are currently in school during the morning and then go home after they’ve eaten their lunch.  They will be starting school full-time on Monday 10th September.

We also welcome two new members of staff to our team; our Year 6 teacher Miss Groves and Mrs Burton who will be teaching Year 3.

On Tuesday 4th September there will be an opportunity for parents/carers to meet with their child’s teacher to find out what they are going to be learning about in that year group and the teacher’s expectations.  Please see the list below for your child’s class and time.

School clubs are due to start week commencing 10th September.  When you receive the orange information letter, please complete and return to the school office by Thursday 6th September.  Please note that due to safeguarding concerns, once a child has enrolled in a club they are expected to attend every week until Christmas.  If a child does not attend for two successive weeks without notification, their place will be offered to another child.

An excellent course is being offered this term, ‘Understanding your child's behaviour’, this covers building positive and responsive relationships with your child/children.   The course starts on Monday 10th September at St. Michael's from 12.30 - 2.30pm. This is a 10 week course, term time only and finishes on 26th November.   The course is free, if you are interested, please contact Mrs Hamilton.

Everyone looks extremely smart in their school uniforms and hopefully this will continue throughout the year.  Please can you ensure that all children with shoulder length hair have it tied up off their neck to reduce the risk of head lice.

School uniform is still available via the TESCOS website, however they have updated their website – so you now need to click on the F & F Clothing Range.  Please ensure you scroll down below the school uniform where you will find the embroidery service as usual. As always, the PTA hold a limited stock of uniform for purchase at school.

On Thursday 6th September some children in Year 6 will be sitting their Kent Test; we wish them every success and encourage them to have an early night on Wednesday!

Children and staff will be celebrating Harvest Festival on Friday 21st September (the official date is Sunday 23rd September).  We will once again be collecting non-perishable goods to send to the Foodbank to support those in our community with the greatest need.  We are asking for donations of food from the list below to be brought into school on Friday 21st September.

Please can I remind you that parking in the school grounds is for staff only.  Cars parking in the car park to drop children off at school are risking the safety of the other children.  In addition, the zig-zag lines outside the school are also there to protect the children and should not be used to drop children off, however quickly you plan to do it.

We are constantly in need of adults to support and listen to children read; if you know of any grandparent/retired person who may be interested, please contact the office.

Year R are having their first class photo taken by the Kentish Express on 14th September.

Reminders for next month:

The PTA and Mrs Hamilton would like to invite all parents/carers to a coffee afternoon on Thursday 13th September at 2pm. The next Parent representative meeting is on Tuesday 9th October at 2.30pm.

Year 1’s class assembly will take place on Friday 12th October at 2.40pm in the school hall.  Entry via the courtyard please.

School packed lunches are still available until 12th October.  A gentle reminder;  children who are now in Year 3 and would like to continue hot dinners must be registered with the Caterlink cashless system.  Please also note that all children requiring hot dinners must pay in advance via the cashless system, unless they are entitled to universal free school meals, to ensure they remain in credit.

If you or anyone you know has a child that is due to start school in September 2019, please can you let them know that we have an open afternoon on 13th November at 2pm.  Entry via the school office.

We have tried to plan ahead so that you are able to organise your diaries.  Please check the calendar on the school website from the drop down menu to find out when Christmas performances are etc.

Kind regards,

Sara Williamson
